Max Allan Collins ist ein Vielschreiber, dessen Betätigungsfeld sich über Romane, Drehbücher, Comics bis hin zu Filmromanen erstreckt. Zudem ist er Musiker und führte bei drei unabhängigen Filmen Regie.
Seine bekanntesten Werke sind die Nathan Heller-Serie (der Roman Blut und Donner erschien 1999 in der Serie DuMont Noir) und seine Graphic Novel Road to Predition, gefolgt von seinen Romanfassungen der CSI-Serie.
Geboren 1948 in Muscatine, Iowa, studierte er an der Universität in Iowa City. Collins arbeitete als Reporter, später als Lehrer. Seit Ende der 70er ist es ihm möglich, ganz als Schriftsteller zu arbeiten.
